DOE Selects Viryd for Wind Study
Viryd Technologies Inc. has been selected to participate in a U.S Department of Energy (DOE) funded wind energy industry research consortium lead by the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced the recipients last week as part of DOE’s efforts to spur university-led wind research facilities. Viryd was one of three wind turbine companies named as consortium members out of a pool of 100 applicants.

States Can Generate Their Own Renewable Energy To Meet Their RPS
U.S. states do not need to seek energy imports to meet their renewable energy goals. That’s the conclusion of a new report from the 35-year-old Institute for Local Self-Reliance entitled Energy Self-Reliant States. The report finds a total of 31 states can serve all their electricity needs with in-state renewable power, and that every state could reach its renewable mandate with domestically available renewable resources.

Global Wind Installations Up 29% in 2008
Global wind capacity increased an estimated 27,051 megawatts in 2008, with cumulative installations up almost 29 percent. The United States led in new installations, surpassing Germany to rank first in wind energy cumulative capacity and electricity generation.
