Wind Gets Boost from EU Transmission Investment
The European Commission this week allocated over €903 million to electricity interconnection projects as part of its broader European Economic Recovery Plan, injecting new impetus into long standing electricity grid development plans within the EU. Nine projects received funding, including the vital France-Spain interconnection, which has been planned for a long time.

European 2009 Offshore Wind Market Growth Above 50%
A total of 199 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 577 MW were installed at eight new offshore wind farms and connected to the European grid during 2009.

EIB To Invest €300M in Offshore Transmission
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has agreed to provide €300 million for the construction of the BritNed Interconnector, a new electricity transmission cable between the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The BritNed cable is a 50:50 joint venture, between National Grid and TenneT, who operate the grids. It will have a capacity of 1,000 MW and will boost competition by improving connections with European markets.
