Changes to DOE Loan Guarantee Program Pass US House

On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1, the first part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the economic stimulus package. Though the bulk of the renewable energy provisions of the package are contained in H.R. 598 (which is expected to be voted on next week), H.R. 1 does include a revamping of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Loan Guarantee Program for renewable energy projects.

Suzlon Gujarat Wind Park Ltd. (SGWPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Suzlon Energy Ltd., has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the state government of Gujarat, India to develop up to 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of new wind capacity in the state.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon helped to celebrate the start of development on the Eurus wind farm, which, already underway, will have a total installed capacity if 250 megawatts (MW) that will be consumed mainly by Cemex. The wind farm represents an investment of US $550 million by the Spanish company Acciona.
